Public consultations are one of the tools used to achieve sustainable forest development. They allow the general public and Aboriginal communities to express their views and concerns about the management and development of forests and forest resources. The Ministère des Forêts, de la Faune et des Parcs (MFFP) uses this approach in order to make informed decisions that reflect the values and needs expressed by citizens personally or on behalf of groups and organizations.
The purpose of this consultation is twofold. First, it is intended to inform people about the MFFP’s proposed new consultation policy for sustainable forest development and forest management orientations, in accordance with the procedures introduced by the forest regime and the Sustainable Forest Development Act. Second, it will allow all citizens, on their own behalf or on behalf of a group or organization with an interest in the proposed draft policy, to make comments and express their views, in order to improve the text. The policy, once adopted, will replace Québec’s Consultation Policy on Orientations for the Management and Development of the Forest Environment which has been in force since 2003.
